Tony
BT operates a new broadband speedtester which you can use an unlimited number of times whilst it is in beta test. Go to speedtester.bt.com and select the "Try new speedtest beta" button.

Time: Every Thursday during term-time from 9:30 - 11:30.
Cost: £2.50 per family which includes tea/coffee and a biscuits

I have only recently moved to Hughenden Valley and discovered this web site but I will visit regularly from now on as it seems like a good source of local information – thank you! Anyway, on to HS2...

At a recent "Stop HS2" meeting held on Sunday 4 Septemberthose attending included a previous neighbour over by Cholesbury. The meeting was informed that a new HS2 petition has been set up on the Government's web site “.gov.uk” by Joe Rukin of the “Stop HS2” organisation. This was done as the 100,000 signature based petition is no longer acceptable despite David Cameron stating in February that any petition which collected more than 100,000 signatures would trigger a debate in the House of Commons. It rather sounds like the politicians and Civil Service have changed the rules to avoid a debate on HS2 by setting the"Stop HS2" campaign back 6 months perhaps in the hope of exhausting opposition to HS2!

Visit “http://tinyurl.com/3e6vo2r” for the interview with Joe Rukin in “Buckingham Today”.

While the 100,000 signature hand-written petition will still be submitted, after being checked for errors and duplicate entries removed, there doesn't seem to be much hope that this will be recognised as an acceptable protest. So; as the new e-petition appears to be the only “official” means to express opposition to HS2 and obtain parliamentary time to debate the topic, please visit “http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/353” and fill in the e petition.

It is important to note that after signing the e-petition you will receive an email in response which should not be deleted as it contains a link which must be clicked on to confirm the signature otherwise your “signature” will not count – if you don’t receive one check your email spam folder. Of course, this means that only those with internet access and an email address will be able to sign the petition thus disenfranchising those without… democracy in action or inaction? No doubt another hurdle placed in the way by the politicians and Civil Servants hell bent on forcing the exorbitant costs of the HS2 white elephant on an already impoverished nation – yes, everyone in the country will suffer not just those who will have to live with the impact!

Please let your family, friends, neighbours and colleagues who opposes HS2 know that again their support is needed – even if they have already signed a petition! They may also be interested in the video narrated by Geoffrey Palmer www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD1wFiaLp-4

Many thanks for somehow finding time to update your website as often as you do. Would you be able to publicise a HAGA outing for which there are still a few seats available? It's a visit to Meadow Farm Nursery and Hanbury Halt (Worcs (NT) on Sat. 6th August. The coach leaves Hughenden at 8.45am and the cost will be £17 (NT member) or £24 (non NT member). If anyone is interested please contact Daphne Hicks for more information on 07815 082887.

We have Amy and Lauren who collect from our area. Amy began in September when she needed to collect £1000 for a school trip to Morocco in April. We have a 2 weekly collection with a reminder 2 days before. Amy's younger sister Lauren has now joined the business to finance her own trip next year.

Its great to see young people with the initiative to go out and earn their money rather than rely on the bank of mum and dad. Well done girls.
